Frank-Walter Steinmeier relocates official seat to Hattingen for three-day visit
German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier has relocated his official seat from Schloss Bellevue to Hattingen in the Ruhr region for a three-day visit. This trip marks the 20th and final installment of his ‘Ortszeit Deutschland’ series, an initiative designed to foster dialogue with citizens in smaller and medium-sized towns outside of major metropolitan areas.
During his stay, Steinmeier is scheduled to engage in various community activities, including walking through the city center with Mayor Melanie Witte-Lonsing, visiting local businesses, and participating in a pub quiz. His program also includes cooking potato soup with local youth and rowing with a local club on the Ruhr. The visit will conclude on Thursday with an awards ceremony at the Henrichshütte industrial museum, where he will present the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany to citizens from the region.
In discussions with local politicians, Steinmeier emphasized the importance of political stability following recent state elections in Berlin and Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. He urged that the country focus on the future and ensure that the concerns of citizens are heard, stating, ‘We must not let ourselves be paralyzed by fear.’
