Franke und Bornberg rating reveals gaps in private health insurance
A recent rating of private health insurance (PKV) by Franke und Bornberg reveals significant quality disparities among providers. Out of 799 evaluated tariffs, only 9.3 percent—representing 74 plans—achieved the highest rating of FFF+ (“excellent”).
Nearly half of the analyzed tariffs did not exceed a “satisfactory” rating. Notably, 23 tariffs received a grade of only F+ (“sufficient”) because they failed to meet a new minimum standard: covering transportation costs for outpatient therapies. This specific coverage is considered critical for seriously ill policyholders, such as those requiring regular dialysis or radiation therapy.
The study evaluated over 1,400 tariff combinations from 31 private insurers, utilizing updated criteria that include financial strength, sustainability, and care standards.
