Frankfurt and Berlin city councils navigate coalition talks and governance debates

The newly elected Frankfurt city parliament held its first session on 23 April, electing Claudia Korenke (CDU) as chair and forming nine party groups. Coalition negotiations among the CDU, Greens, SPD and Volt produced a coalition agreement presented on 11 June, while the parliament prepared dismissal motions against two FDP councillors and three Green members, with a further vote scheduled for 25 June before the summer break.

In Berlin, a public panel on 29 June brought together leaders from the CDU, Greens, FDP, SPD and The Left to discuss pressing city issues ahead of the upcoming state election. Topics included achieving housing construction targets, improving affordability, advancing the mobility transition and enhancing public safety. The forum, moderated by a newspaper editor and funded by political‑education bodies, allowed audience questions and highlighted the parties' differing approaches to Berlin’s challenges.
