Frankfurt and Vienna airports report mixed August 2026 traffic

Major European aviation hubs reported mixed passenger traffic results for August 2026. Frankfurt Airport saw approximately 6.3 million passengers, a slight decrease of 0.3 percent compared to the previous year, though this figure set a monthly record for 2026. While flight movements at Frankfurt dropped by 4.6 percent, air cargo volume increased by 2.9 percent to 179,400 tons.

Vienna Airport experienced a more significant decline, with 3,172,284 passengers, representing a 6.9 percent decrease from August 2025. Officials attributed this drop to a reduced offering from low-cost carriers and fewer connections due to ongoing crises in the Middle East. Despite the passenger decline, Vienna saw an 8.3 percent increase in air cargo, reaching 27,513 tons. Flight movements in Vienna also decreased by 6 percent, though aircraft load factors remained high at 85.6 percent.
