Frankfurt begins deployment of 52 new municipal buses
Frankfurt has begun the rollout of 52 new Citaro buses as part of a major fleet renewal project by the municipal operator, In-der-City-Bus (ICB). The order, supplied by Daimler Buses, consists of 32 standard-length buses and 20 articulated vehicles.
As of September 11, 2026, 20 of the new vehicles were already in passenger service, with the remaining units scheduled to join the fleet progressively over the coming weeks. This renewal represents approximately 23 percent of ICB’s total fleet of roughly 230 buses.
The initiative aims to modernize the city's public transport and improve service reliability. By replacing older vehicles that have become increasingly prone to technical failures, the city intends to reduce service cancellations and stabilize the daily transit schedule across its 34 bus lines.
