Frankfurt court sentences driver to three years for fatal e-scooter crash
A 24-year-old driver has been sentenced to three years in prison by the Frankfurt District Court following a fatal accident involving e-scooters. The driver, a stateless individual originally from Syria residing in Bad Kreuznach, had consumed nitrous oxide before driving through Frankfurt's city center on July 5, 2025.
Due to intoxication and excessive speed, the driver veered off the road and struck two e-scooters. The collision killed two 23-year-old twin brothers, one of whom died instantly and the other shortly after at a hospital.
A 27-year-old driver on a second e-scooter was also struck. After the initial impact, the driver continued at high speed, causing the victim to fall onto tram tracks. The 27-year-old suffered severe injuries that resulted in the amputation of a lower leg. The court convicted the driver of attempted murder regarding the 27-year-old and negligent homicide regarding the deaths of the twins.
