Frankfurt hosts design and automotive heritage events

Frankfurt is hosting several major design and automotive events as part of its role as the World Design Capital 2026. From August 27 to 30, the city will host ‘Critical Making’ at the Bockenheim Campus. This interdisciplinary event focuses on workshops and collaborative spaces to promote ‘Design for Democracy,’ addressing global challenges such as climate change, resource exploitation, and social inequality through community-driven production and repair practices.

Additionally, the Automechanika 2026 trade fair will take place in Frankfurt from September 8 to 12. For the first time, Opel Classic will feature a dedicated stand to showcase over a century of automotive history. The exhibition will include vehicles ranging from the 1899 Lutzmann Patentmotorwagen to 1990s models like the Opel Calibra, highlighting the evolution of the brand and the automotive industry.
