Frankfurt Marathon expects record number of participants

The 46th Mainova Frankfurt Marathon, scheduled for October 25, 2026, is poised to set a new record for participant numbers. The organizing agency, Motion Events, has approved 19,776 registrations for the marathon, which includes approximately 1,200 spots reserved for sponsors and partners. This figure represents an increase of about 2,000 participants compared to the previous year.

To accommodate the larger crowd, the agency utilized crowd management insights gained through a partnership with London Marathon Investments. By applying simulations and models developed by researcher Marcel Altenburg from the University of Manchester, the start procedures have been optimized to prevent bottlenecks. While 2,000 additional applicants were turned away due to capacity limits, the agency aims to eventually allow up to 25,000 registrations by further optimizing the course in future years.

The 42.195-kilometer route passes through Frankfurt's city center, featuring landmarks such as the Alte Oper, the Eschenheimer Turm, and the Goethe University. The course is noted for being one of the fastest marathon tracks in Germany for amateur athletes.
