Frankfurt restructuring separates construction and education departments

Sylvia Weber (SPD) is stepping down from her role as Frankfurt's building department head following a new coalition agreement. Under the new arrangement, the departments for construction and education will be separated again, with the building department being reassigned to Wolfgang Siefert of the Green Party.

During her five-year tenure, which included overseeing municipal real estate, Weber oversaw 41 construction and renovation projects. These included ten new school buildings and the renovation or expansion of 19 schools, alongside projects such as the renovation of the Schirn and the Architecture Museum.

Weber acknowledged a significant backlog in school renovations resulting from decades of underinvestment, noting that the current progress is part of a long-term effort to address structural issues and administrative delays.
