FrankfurtRheinMain cities launch circular economy initiative

The cities of Frankfurt, Wiesbaden, Offenbach, and Hanau, alongside the state government of Hessen, have launched the ‘Initiative Kreislaufwirtschaft FrankfurtRheinMain’ to establish the region as a leading European hub for circular construction and the circular economy.

During the Expo Real real estate trade fair in Munich, officials signed a Letter of Intent to leverage the metropolitan region’s high density of industry, research, and consumers. The initiative aims to foster innovation, attract new companies, and enhance the long-term economic resilience of the FrankfurtRheinMain area.

A central component of this effort is the ‘Circle’ network based in Offenbach, which currently involves approximately 100 companies focused on the reuse of building materials. While the initiative currently emphasizes circular construction, plans are in place to gradually expand its scope to other areas of the circular economy.
