Franklin Templeton names Rene Buehlmann to lead Asia Pacific operations
Franklin Templeton announced that Rene Buehlmann will become Head of Asia Pacific, effective 21 September 2026, pending regulatory approval. Buehlmann brings more than 35 years of experience in wealth and asset management, having advised KKR on strategic acquisitions, served as global CEO of Aberdeen Investments, and spent nearly three decades at UBS, including 15 years leading its Asia Pacific asset‑management business.
In his new role, Buehlmann will oversee the firm’s strategic growth initiatives, client engagement and business‑development efforts across the region, which employs about 2,600 staff in markets such as Singapore, Hong Kong, India, Japan, China, Taiwan, Malaysia, Korea and Australia. Daniel Gamba, co‑president and chief commercial officer of Franklin Templeton, said the appointment reflects the firm’s commitment to expanding its leadership team and investing in Asia Pacific. Buehlmann expressed enthusiasm about joining the firm at an “exciting time for the firm and the region.”
