Franklin unemployment rates decline amid shifting labor forces
Unemployment rates in Franklin regions have shown declines according to recent labor reports. In the Franklin Hampshire region, the unemployment rate dropped to 3.8% as of June, which is 0.3% lower than the previous year and 0.4% lower than the state average.
However, the Franklin Hampshire region experienced a 2.2% decrease in total employment. Labor market specialists attribute this trend to an aging population; as residents retire, they leave the labor force entirely rather than seeking new employment, which lowers the unemployment rate without increasing job numbers.
In Kentucky, Franklin County recorded a 3.6% jobless rate, placing it among the counties with the lowest unemployment in the state. The county saw a 0.3% drop compared to August 2025 and a 0.8% decrease from July of the current year.
