Frankston harbor development discussed by Progress Association
During a Frankston Progress Association meeting, discussions arose regarding the necessity of a safe harbor for yachts and larger vessels on the eastern shore of the bay. Commander Creswell noted that while a major scheme to build a breakwater at Davey’s Bay had been proposed by authorities, it faced opposition from Frankston and Mornington.
Creswell argued that opposing a breakwater would be short-sighted, as a safe harbor could significantly develop the district. He noted that the Department of Ports and Harbours was interested in proceeding with the Davey’s Bay plan. Some opposition reportedly stems from those favoring a smaller harbor at the mouth of Kananook Creek.
Concerns were also raised regarding the Kananook Creek improvement scheme, with reports suggesting that water intended for the creek is being diverted to the Patterson River at Carrum, potentially stalling local improvements.
