François Asselineau discusses French debt and sovereignty

François Asselineau, president of the UPR, has raised concerns regarding France's financial stability and national sovereignty. He noted that the yield spread between French ten-year bonds (OAT) and German Bunds reached 175 basis points, a significant increase compared to previous years.

Asselineau outlined two potential scenarios for managing this debt: either the European Central Bank intervenes by purchasing French debt—which he argues would require concessions to net creditor nations—or France could face a form of oversight by the European Commission and the IMF, similar to the Greek crisis.

To mitigate these risks, Asselineau proposed the renationalization of debt through Treasury bonds reserved for French savers, citing the Japanese model. He also criticized the current euro-atlantic geopolitical strategy, arguing that decoupling Europe from Russia harms European economic and industrial interests.
