François Asselineau launches 2027 presidential campaign

François Asselineau, president of the Union Populaire Républicaine (UPR), has launched his campaign for the 2027 French presidential election following the party's autumn university meeting, which drew approximately 800 participants.

During recent media appearances, Asselineau addressed several key political and economic issues. Regarding the European Union, he advocated for 'Frexit,' which involves exiting EU treaties via Article 50, leaving the euro, and restoring capital controls. He expressed concern over the 2028-2034 multiannual financial framework, noting that France's net contribution could rise to 18.5 billion euros annually.

On economic matters, Asselineau discussed France's public debt and interest rates. Following an interview with Philippe Juvin, the general rapporteur of the National Assembly's finance commission, Asselineau argued against budget cuts that could worsen the deficit, instead prioritizing economic growth and stopping expenditures that leave the national economy.

Additionally, Asselineau commented on the French education system, attributing declining PISA rankings to factors such as screen time and low teacher salaries. He also proposed reducing the number of senators from 348 to 100, modeled after the United States.
