François Hollande faces controversy over 17,600 euro monthly income

Former French President François Hollande is facing political criticism following revelations regarding his monthly income. During a television appearance on BFMTV, Hollande stated that there are ‘no rich retirees,’ except for those with significant supplementary pensions or private savings.

However, it has been reported that Hollande receives approximately 17,600 euros per month in total. This amount includes roughly 10,000 euros from various retirement sources, such as his former presidential status and his pensions from the Court of Auditors and as a local official. Additionally, as a current Member of Parliament for Corrèze, he receives a monthly parliamentary indemnity of approximately 7,637 euros.

While the accumulation of these funds is legally permitted under current regulations, the discrepancy between his comments on retiree wealth and his personal income has sparked debate on social media and among political opponents. In the same interview, Hollande discussed pension reform, suggesting that raising the legal retirement age to 63 and increasing contribution periods is necessary to protect the pay-as-you-go system.
