Franquelin road safety re-evaluated after fatal accident

The Ministère des Transports et de la Mobilité durable (MTMD) will conduct a new analysis of the road environment in the Côte Bellevue sector of Franquelin following a fatal accident. The incident, which occurred during the night of August 8 to August 9, resulted in the death of a 16-year-old teenager.

The ministry stated that it will re-examine the layout of this portion of Route 138. The absence of safety barriers in the area had previously raised concerns among citizens following significant roadwork completed in 2024. While the MTMD expressed regret over the accident, officials noted that the decision not to install safety barriers during the recent reconfiguration was based on the site's specific configuration. At this time, the ministry has not committed to any specific modifications.
