Frans Timmermans Faces Antisemitism Accusations Over Holocaust Comparison
Dutch minister of state Frans Timmermans sparked a wave of condemnation after likening Israel’s military actions to those of Nazi Germany. In an interview with Belgian outlet De Morgen, he claimed that the rationale used by extreme right‑wing factions in Israel—to ensure Jewish survival by removing Palestinians—mirrored the reasoning of the Nazis during the Holocaust.
His remarks prompted sharp rebuke from several commentators and organisations. Philosopher Maarten Boudry called the comparison “the most vulgar form of Holocaust inversion,” while former party colleague Keren Hirsch labeled Timmermans a “gore antisemite.” Jacques Monach and the Central Jewish Organization (Centraal Joods Overleg) also condemned the statements as antisemitic and called for legal scrutiny.
