Franz Kafka’s connection to anarchism and anti-authoritarianism
Recent analysis explores Franz Kafka’s connection to anarchism and his anti-authoritarian literary perspective. While some biographers have attempted to distance the Czech writer from libertarian movements, research such as Costa Despiniadis’s ‘Frank Kafka. El anatomista del poder’ suggests his ties to Prague’s anarchist circles were significant.
Kafka’s involvement reportedly grew during his time at the Workers' Insurance Institute in Prague. He attended various political gatherings, including meetings of the Youth Club, which was suppressed by police for spreading anti-militarist and subversive ideas. His participation extended to protests against the death penalty for anarchist Francisco Ferrer Guardia in Spain and commemorations of the Paris Commune.
