Franz Liszt manuscripts and letters now free on Hungary’s Copia platform

The National Széchényi Library and the Music Academy’s Liszt Ferenc Memorial Museum have released a large collection of Franz Liszt‑related documents on the Copia digital service. The archive now includes 53 of Liszt’s autographs, letters, photos and other manuscripts, as well as 22 handwritten scores by early‑20th‑century composer Weiner Leó and selected works by Farkas Ferenc. Among the newly accessible items are varied pieces such as short memorial sheets, a Hungarian rhapsody, and the Faust Symphony autographed manuscript with numerous corrections. The digitised materials can be viewed and downloaded freely online, providing researchers and the public with unprecedented access to the composer’s legacy.

The release coincides with the upcoming 2026 double Liszt jubilee, marking 215 years since his birth and 140 years since his death, and follows a 2025 partnership between the National Library and the Liszt Academy to broaden online availability of the composer’s heritage.
