Franz Marc exhibition to open in Düsseldorf

The Kunstsammlung NRW (K20) in Düsseldorf will host a major exhibition of Franz Marc, beginning September 12. The showcase features more than 120 paintings and works on paper from the co-founder of the ‘Der Blaue Reiter’ movement.

The collection includes masterpieces on loan from international institutions, including the Guggenheim Museum, the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York, and museums in Madrid and Chicago. These works, which are rarely loaned for travel, track Marc’s artistic evolution from late-impressionist color palettes to cubist-inspired abstraction.

Marc’s complete body of work is relatively small, consisting of approximately 244 paintings and a similar number of watercolors and drawings produced between 1904 and 1914. The exhibition aims to provide a comprehensive view of his stylistic development and his search for harmony through vibrant animal imagery.
