Franz Reindl has been elected as the 15th President of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) during the organization's congress in Tenerife. Reindl, a former German national team player and Olympic bronze medalist, secured the position in a second round of voting. He received 60 votes (51.28 percent) to defeat Petr Briza, who received 57 votes (48.72 percent).

In the initial round of voting, Briza led with 48 votes, followed by Reindl with 36 and Aivaz Omorkanov with 33. Because no candidate achieved a majority in the first round, a runoff was required. Following the election, Petr Briza was re-elected as the Senior Vice President of the IIHF.

Reindl is the first German to lead the IIHF since Gunther Sabetzki, who held the office from 1975 to 1994. He succeeds Luc Tardif, who chose not to seek re-election. Reindl’s term is scheduled to run from October 2026 until October 2030. One of his primary stated goals is to improve communication with the National Hockey League (NHL) to facilitate better player participation in Olympic events.
