Franz Welser-Möst conducts final Cleveland Orchestra concert in Vienna
Franz Welser-Möst conducted his final concert in Vienna as Chief Conductor of the Cleveland Orchestra at the Konzerthaus. The program reflected his 25-year tenure, featuring Mozart’s Symphony No. 39 in C major, KV 338, and Richard Strauss’s ‘Sinfonia domestica’. The performance also included ‘Intensity’ by Bernd Richard Deutsch, a work commissioned during Welser-Möst's leadership.
Welser-Möst’s era with the Cleveland Orchestra is set to conclude in June 2027. During his tenure, the orchestra will have performed approximately 1,200 concerts and 23 operas, including six works by Richard Strauss. Following his European tour, Welser-Möst is scheduled to return to the Bavarian State Opera in November for a production of ‘Ariadne auf Naxos’.
Separately, the Bavarian State Opera is reviving Robert Carsen’s production of Richard Strauss’s ‘Ariadne auf Naxos’, an orchestration originally staged in 2008.
