Franziska Gänsler’s Orca shortlisted for German Book Prize

Franziska Gänsler’s third novel, Orca, has been shortlisted for the German Book Prize. The story follows Cora, a student from a low-income background attending an elite private school through a scholarship program.

Set during the first COVID-19 lockdown, the novel explores themes of social adaptation and the intense desire for belonging. The narrative depicts Cora’s rigorous efforts to fit into high-society circles, including artificial routines in skincare, fitness, and even practicing specific ways of laughing.
