Frasers Group acquires luxury retailer Harvey Nichols
Frasers Group has acquired the luxury department store Harvey Nichols following the retailer's entry into administration. The deal, valued at approximately 46.8 million euros, includes six UK stores—including the flagship Knightsbridge location—the company's e-commerce platform, and its international franchise operations.
Harvey Nichols, a brand with nearly two centuries of history, has faced significant financial challenges, accumulating pre-tax losses of approximately 190 million pounds over the last six years. While the acquisition secures more than 1,000 jobs, Frasers Group CEO Michael Murray has indicated that significant restructuring will be necessary to ensure long-term sustainability. He noted that the turnaround may require “tough choices,” which could include operating a smaller business in the near term.
The acquisition expands Frasers Group's footprint in the premium and luxury sectors, following its previous attempt to enter the market with Flannels. Harvey Nichols CEO Julia Goddard described the deal as an “important milestone” for the brand's development.
