Frasers Group bids for Harvey Nichols department store

Frasers Group, the retail conglomerate founded by Mike Ashley, has entered the auction for the struggling luxury department store Harvey Nichols despite objections from many of the store's brand partners, including Armani Beauty, Nike, Polo Ralph Lauren and Cartier. Harvey Nichols, headquartered in Knightsbridge, operates 14 locations worldwide and has faced competition from Harrods and Selfridges.

The bid follows a period of strong revenue growth for Frasers Group, which reported an 8.7% increase to £5.3 billion for the year to April 2026, driven by international expansion. The group has recently completed acquisitions in South Africa and the Nordics, opened stores in Malta, Australia and the Middle East, and pursued other high‑profile offers such as a €2 billion bid for Hugo Boss and a £166 million proposal for Australian shoe firm Accent. Analysts suggest the Harvey Nichols auction could spark a bidding war with high‑street rival Next.

Brand partners have voiced concerns that a Frasers takeover could alter the store's premium positioning, but a senior Harvey Nichols official confirmed that Frasers is now obliged to participate in the sale process alongside other interested parties.
