Fırat University hosts water and food security workshop
Fırat University, the Turkish Academy of Sciences (TÜBA), and Elazığ Municipality recently hosted a workshop focused on basin-based pollution management and wastewater reuse from the perspective of water and food security. During the event, Fırat University Rector Prof. Dr. Fahrettin Göktaş highlighted the strategic importance of clean water and the growing challenges of accessing reliable food, specifically noting the risks posed by pesticides in agriculture and antibiotics in animal production.
In a related technological development, BİOTEKNİK is developing a domestic, eco-friendly fumigation system with a capacity of 250 g/min to enhance food supply security. This project, titled ‘Development of a Zero-Waste Eco-Friendly Fumigant Application System’, is supported by the TÜBİTAK TEYDEB 1832 Green Transformation in Industry Program and is financed by the World Bank. The project receives scientific and technical consultancy from Fırat University and the Agricultural Pest Control Research Institute. The official launch is scheduled for September 16, 2026.
