Fırat University hosts YÖKAK academic quality training
Fırat University hosted the Higher Education Quality Council of Turkey (YÖKAK) Evaluator Deepening Training in Elazığ. The program brought together approximately 150 representatives from 70 universities and various institutions to focus on quality assurance, evaluation processes, and academic terminology in higher education.
During the event, YÖKAK President Prof. Dr. Ümit Kocabıçak addressed the disparity in quality among Turkey's 208 universities. He noted that while the number of universities has grown significantly since 2001, many are relatively new, stating, “Can we say all our 208 universities are of the same quality? We cannot.” He emphasized the critical importance of establishing quality assurance systems to improve institutional standards.
Fırat University Rector Prof. Dr. Fahrettin Göktaş highlighted the deep historical roots of higher education in the region, tracing the tradition from Seljuk and Ottoman madrasas to the modern university system. The training aims to foster inter-institutional cooperation and develop a unified approach to academic evaluation.
