Fratelli d'Italia calls for Scarpinato's removal from Antimafia Commission

Fratelli d'Italia parliamentary leaders Lucio Malan and Galeazzo Bignami have formally requested that the Movimento 5 Stelle (M5S) replace Senator Roberto Scarpinato on the Antimafia Commission.

The request follows a decision by a judge in Caltanissetta regarding a mafia-related investigation into 1992 massacres. The judge characterized Scarpinato’s actions as “attività depistante” (misleading activity) and “attività di inquinamento” (pollution of evidence) conducted in a manner favorable to himself.

Malan and Bignami argued that Scarpinato’s presence undermines the institutional credibility and ability of the commission to work serenely while investigating the deaths of Giovanni Falcone and Paolo Borsellino. They stated that the responsibility to intervene lies with political bodies rather than the courts.
