Fratelli d'Italia denies defunding Covid vaccine injury fund
Political tensions in Italy have resurfaced regarding the management of funds intended for those harmed by Covid-19 vaccines. Members of the Fratelli d'Italia party have denied allegations that the Meloni government is defunding the compensation pool for vaccine injuries.
The party clarified that while funds are being redirected within a decree-law related to the disposal of pandemic-era waste, this involves reallocating unused, overfunded portions of the compensation fund back to the Ministry of Economy and Finance. Fratelli d'Italia characterized the claims of defunding as misinformation and political propaganda, asserting that the excess funds are being reprogrammed rather than withdrawn from those entitled to them.
Separately, political criticism has been leveled against former Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte, with commentary questioning the quality of political leadership and the efficacy of past administrative decisions during the pandemic era.
