Fratelli d'Italia proposes suspending municipal subsidies for families of convicted minors
Fratelli d'Italia has presented a bill to the Italian Senate aimed at increasing parental responsibility for minors involved in criminal proceedings. Signed by Senator Matteo Gelmetti, the six-article proposal seeks to link the conviction of a minor to the suspension of certain non-essential municipal economic benefits.
Under the proposed law, if a minor is sentenced to at least one year in prison, even at the first degree, the municipality may suspend non-essential benefits for the parents or legal guardians. These benefits include discretionary economic contributions, tariff reductions, and other rewards that exceed essential service levels. The suspension would last for the duration of the sentence.
The bill also introduces an individualized family educational project, which local social services can propose to parents or guardians during juvenile criminal proceedings. This initiative is intended to foster collaboration between families, municipalities, and competent services through a process that can last up to twelve months.
