Fratelli d’Italia leader Bignami accuses Giuseppe Conte of Covid‑19 mismanagement and files Court of Auditors complaint

Fratelli d’Italia deputy Galeazzo Bignami has publicly charged former prime minister Giuseppe Conte and the centre‑left coalition with irregularities in Italy’s pandemic response. He cited a €250 million penalty linked to errors by the Covid‑19 emergency commission led by Domenico Arcuri and demanded that the “shield” law protecting officials be renounced so they can be held accountable. Bignami announced that his party will lodge an immediate complaint with the Corte dei Conti.

Separately, Bignami resigned from the parliament to make himself available for questioning by the Covid‑19 parliamentary inquiry. The committee, chaired by Senator Alice Buonguerrieri, said it will set a hearing date for Conte, who has repeatedly said he is willing to be heard but has not yet resigned. Buonguerrieri warned that Conte can no longer claim immunity and that a date will be fixed regardless of any attempts to avoid testimony.
