Fraud cases in France involve fake business documents and AI-generated bank statements
Two distinct fraudulent schemes have been reported in France, involving the misuse of official documents and artificial intelligence.
In Haute-Garonne, an individual allegedly used a forged general assembly minute to transfer ownership of the company Occitanie Sports Loisirs. By submitting the falsified document to the commercial court registry, the perpetrator successfully changed the company's registration (Kbis), allowing them to seize control of the business, its online banking, and its mail. The suspect is reportedly demanding 17,000 euros in cryptocurrency from the original manager, Mélanie Garcia.
In the Tarn department, a scam targeting restaurants has utilized artificial intelligence to create convincing fake bank statements. The scheme involves a man calling a restaurant to claim a double payment occurred, followed by a woman visiting the establishment to show a fraudulent statement on a smartphone and demanding an immediate cash refund. Authorities have arrested a woman suspected of being an accomplice in Saint-Sulpice-la-Pointe, following investigations into at least five targeted businesses.
