Fraud incidents target elderly citizens in Brazil

Two separate fraud incidents targeting elderly citizens have been reported in Brazil.

In Limeira, São Paulo, a 69-year-old woman discovered a debt of R$ 3,574.54 after being misled by a supermarket employee. The victim was told in April that a store loyalty card application had been rejected. However, she later discovered that a card had been issued and used for a withdrawal, leading to her name being included in the Serasa credit registry. The case has been registered with police as potential fraud.

In Chupinguaia, Rondônia, a retiree lost R$ 12,000 through a false credit portability scam conducted via WhatsApp. A woman posing as a financial negotiator convinced the victim to take out a new loan to reduce monthly installments on an existing one. Following her instructions, the victim transferred the full loan amount via Pix to a supposed intermediary company. The victim later learned the original debt remained unpaid, leaving him with two active loans.
