Fraudsters use impersonation tactics to target consumers and legal clients

Fraudsters are increasingly using impersonation tactics to target individuals through messaging apps and fraudulent websites. In one prevalent scheme, criminals pose as lawyers or legal representatives by using public judicial data and falsified documents. They often contact victims claiming that payments for taxes, court costs, or administrative fees are required via Pix to release pending judicial funds.

In another trend, scammers are impersonating utility companies such as Saneago and Equatorial Goiás. These criminals send messages regarding overdue bills or create fake websites that mimic official company pages. By using legitimate logos and visual identities, they trick consumers into paying fraudulent slips or entering sensitive personal and financial data on phishing sites. Authorities advise verifying all contacts through official company channels before making any payments.
