Argentina authorities warn of rising financial and identity scams

Authorities and institutions in Argentina are issuing warnings regarding a surge in various fraudulent schemes targeting citizens.

Financial institutions like Banco Provincia have alerted customers to fake investment advisors using social engineering to gain account control. Similarly, PAMI has warned affiliates against fraudulent messages regarding changes to diaper deliveries, trips, or computer distributions, clarifying that official services remain unchanged.

Other notable scams include: - False job offers using the McCain Argentina brand, where victims are asked to pay for uniforms. - Utility bill scams, specifically targeting retirees with fake discounts on gas bills via WhatsApp and impersonating companies like Naturgy. - Digital wallet fraud, where criminals impersonate security personnel to extract banking credentials. - WhatsApp identity theft, where hacked accounts are used to request urgent money transfers from family members.

In one reported case in San Justo, a woman lost over 8.7 million pesos to individuals impersonating digital wallet security staff. Authorities recommend verifying all requests through official channels and never sharing passwords, security codes, or remote access to devices.
