Fred again. rejects AI-generated music, citing the importance of the creative process

British electronic artist and DJ Fred again. has expressed strong opposition to the use of generative AI in music creation. In recent social media posts, he emphasized that the creative process itself is the most vital aspect of artistry, stating, “the process is the magic.” He noted that he has felt “no pull whatsoever” to experiment with AI tools, as he views the struggle of developing an idea as central to his identity and meditative practice.

His comments coincide with broader industry concerns regarding artificial intelligence. Recently, guitarist Jason Isbell led a coalition of musicians in a class-action lawsuit against the AI music platform Suno, alleging the company used their identities without consent to mimic their unique styles. Additionally, platforms such as Beatport are reportedly working to enhance AI detection capabilities to protect the rights and integrity of human creators.
