Fred criticizes Erik ten Hag's management at Manchester United

Former Manchester United midfielder Fred has criticized former manager Erik ten Hag regarding his squad management during his time at Old Trafford. Speaking on the Charla podcast, Fred described Ten Hag as a “clique-ridden coach” who favored Dutch players and frequently argued with key members of the squad.

Fred specifically named Cristiano Ronaldo, Casemiro, Marcus Rashford, and himself as individuals who experienced friction with the manager. He noted that the tension with Ronaldo stemmed from Ten Hag’s desire for a high-intensity running game, which led to the veteran forward being moved out of the starting lineup.

Despite the harsh criticism of Ten Hag’s interpersonal skills, Fred praised the Dutchman’s tactical abilities, calling him “one of the best I’ve ever worked with.” Ten Hag’s tenure at Manchester United included winning the League Cup in 2023 and the FA Cup in 2024 before his dismissal in October 2024.
