Fred Gil withdraws from World Tennis Masters due to injury
Fred Gil has been forced to withdraw from the World Tennis Masters Tour World Individual Championships due to a right hamstring injury. The former ATP player, who was the world number one in the +40 category, suffered the injury during his singles semifinals while leading 3-1. The injury prevented him from competing effectively, resulting in a 6-3, 6-1 defeat against Switzerland’s Mohammed Fetov.
Rita Freitas remains Portugal’s final hope for a gold medal in the tournament. The former world champion is scheduled to compete in the women’s singles final in the +40 category against Switzerland’s Laura Bao.
