Freddie Mercury memorabilia to be auctioned in October

A significant collection of memorabilia belonging to Freddie Mercury, the late lead singer of Queen, is set to go to auction on October 1 and 2. The items are part of the Reinhold Mack Collection, an 82-lot archive offered by the German producer and his son, Freddie Mack, who worked closely with the band.

The centerpiece of the auction is a Yamaha C3 grand piano from Munich’s Musicland Studios. Mercury used the instrument to compose solo material and record hits for Queen albums including ‘The Game’, ‘Hot Space’, and ‘The Works’. The piano is estimated to fetch between £200,000 and £400,000. Also up for bid is an AKG C414 EB microphone used for Mercury’s lead and backing vocals, with an estimated value of £40,000 to £80,000.

Other notable items include handwritten lyric drafts for the songs ‘My Love is Dangerous’ and ‘Let’s Turn It On’ from Mercury’s 1985 solo album, ‘Mr. Bad Guy’. The collection also features a teddy bear gifted by Mercury to the Mack family. Before the auction, the items will be on public display at The Cumberland Hotel in London from September 23 to 27.
