Freddie Slater to make Formula 1 debut with Audi

British driver Freddie Slater will make his Formula 1 debut during free practice sessions at the upcoming Mexico City and São Paulo Grands Prix. The 18-year-old is a member of Audi’s driver development programme, which was established as the German manufacturer prepares to take over the Sauber team for the 2026 season.

Slater, who finished second in the Formula 3 championship this season and was named the season's top rookie, will participate in the first practice sessions (FP1) to fulfill regulatory obligations regarding young drivers. He is scheduled to replace Nico Hülkenberg in Mexico and Gabriel Bortoleto in Brazil.

Following these sessions, Slater will move up to Formula 2 in 2027 with the Invicta team. Audi’s racing director, Allan McNish, noted that the appearances are intended to provide Slater with valuable experience during a Grand Prix weekend as part of his continued development.
