Freddy Quinn celebrates 95th birthday

Singer and actor Freddy Quinn will celebrate his 95th birthday on September 27. The Austrian-born entertainer, who rose to fame in Germany during the post-war era, currently lives a quiet life on a farm in Schleswig-Holstein with his wife, Rosi.

Quinn, known for hits such as ‘Heimweh’ and ‘Junge, komm bald wieder’, has spent recent years clarifying the myths surrounding his ‘lonely sailor’ persona. In his 2025 autobiography, ‘Wie es wirklich war’, he revealed that his seafaring image was a management-created costume that did not reflect his true life. He noted that his record label had even discouraged him from pursuing romantic relationships to maintain his unattached image.

Recently, previously unknown archival recordings of Quinn performing country classics, including ‘Ghost Riders in the Sky’, were discovered and released on streaming platforms. Quinn expressed pleasure at the find, noting his past connection to country music through his roles in the Karl May plays.
