Freddy Quinn celebrates 95th birthday amid musical reconciliation
German Schlager singer Freddy Quinn is celebrating his 95th birthday. To mark the occasion, his long-time musical rival Heino sent a personal letter to Quinn, effectively ending a professional tension that has lasted approximately 60 years. In the letter, Heino expressed “great respect and esteem” for Quinn’s extraordinary career and noted that as years pass, the connections between people become more significant than their differences.
Quinn, who was born in Vienna and rose to fame in Hamburg, expressed surprise at the gesture, calling it a “great gesture” and stating he never had a personal problem with Heino despite the media-reported rivalry.
In addition to the reconciliation, Quinn’s birthday has highlighted a discovery of previously unreleased recordings. Two country music covers, “Ghost Riders in the Sky” and “Home on the Range,” were found in archives where his music catalog has been stored for the last 50 years. Quinn, who is currently enjoying retirement on a farm with his wife, expressed pleasure at the discovery of these recordings from his time performing in the 1990s.
