Freddy Reyes Pérez, founder of Asociación La Nacional, passes away

Freddy Reyes Pérez, the founder of the Asociación La Nacional de Ahorros y Préstamos (Alnap), has passed away. He died on Sunday, August 30, surrounded by his family following health issues.

Born in 1936, Reyes Pérez was a prominent figure in the Dominican Republic, serving as a lawyer, diplomat, educator, and businessman. He founded the Asociación La Nacional in 1972 with the mission of promoting savings and facilitating access to housing finance. He led the institution for over 40 years and later served as the president of its Board of Consultants and Advisors.

Beyond his banking career, Reyes Pérez was a co-founder of the Universidad Nacional Pedro Henríquez Ureña (UNPHU). His diverse professional life included serving as a diplomat in South America and Japan, where he received a decoration from the Emperor. He was also an author, journalist, and pilot.
