Denmark fire risk rises as heatwave intensifies

A heatwave sweeping Denmark has pushed fire danger to high levels across the country. The DMI fire‑risk index now shows “high” to “very high” danger in large parts of Jutland, Zealand and Funen. Insurer If warned that a small spark could become a “million‑dollar fire”, urging people to avoid open flames, grills and especially weed‑burners. The fire‑risk index advises checking local conditions before lighting a fire and keeping water or a hose nearby. Similar safety advice was issued by local authorities, recommending the use of non‑flammable surfaces for grills, keeping a bucket of water at hand and fully extinguishing coals after use. The combined warnings aim to prevent the surge in brush and garden fires that have risen sharply in recent years.
