Frederikshavn Kommune terminates home care contract after data breach

Frederikshavn Kommune has terminated its partnership with the private home care provider Nii’s Hjemmepleje following a data breach. The decision comes after the municipality discovered that employees from the private firm had accessed sensitive, non-relevant personal data, including medication information and prescriptions.

In response to the municipality revoking their access to the electronic journal system, Nii’s Hjemmepleje announced a strike. Consequently, 68 citizens have been affected by the sudden disruption in service. Mayor Jon Andersen stated that the municipality had to take action to protect citizens and their data, noting that the provider failed to fulfill its contractual obligations.

As an immediate measure, the municipality’s own home care services are stepping in to assist the 68 affected residents. A more permanent plan for their ongoing care is expected to be established within the coming week.
