Fredy Setiawan wins silver in men's singles SL4 at Asian Para Games 2026
Indonesian para badminton athlete Fredy Setiawan secured a silver medal in the men's singles SL4 category at the 2026 Asian Para Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan. Setiawan lost the final to India's Naveen Sivakumar in straight games with a score of 9-21, 17-21.
Setiawan, ranked sixth in the world, expressed dissatisfaction with his performance, noting that frequent errors prevented him from playing at his full potential. He acknowledged the agility of Sivakumar, who is ranked second in the world. Despite the loss, Setiawan noted an improvement from the previous Asian Para Games, where he earned a bronze medal in the same event, and stated his sights are set on the Los Angeles 2028 Paralympics.
This silver medal brings Indonesia's para badminton medal tally to two silvers, following Leani Ratri Oktila's silver in the women's singles SL4. Other Indonesian athletes remain in contention for gold in upcoming mixed doubles and men's doubles finals.
