Free city festivals showcase music and subculture in Koblenz and Cologne

The Latscho Festival returns to Koblenz from 13‑15 August, moving to the Zentralplatz after a permit was denied for the Deutsche Eck location. Organized by the volunteer group Latscho Koblenz e.V. and led by organizer Sebastian Beuth, the free event features 13 local bands, a punk karaoke kickoff, homemade pizza, and information stands for regional NGOs, aiming to make the city’s subculture visible.

In Cologne, the gamescom city festival runs on 30 August 2026 as part of the gamescom framework. The free, outdoor programme spans stages at Hohenzollernring and Rudolfplatz, with headliners such as Thees Uhlmann & Band, The Notwist, and Guildo Horn & Die Orthopädischen Strümpfe. Prime Entertainment and MediaKulturKöln organize the festival in cooperation with Kölnmesse and the city of Cologne, offering a mix of established acts, newcomers, DJ sets, and participatory formats.

Both festivals underline Germany’s trend of city‑center, no‑ticket events that combine live music, cultural diversity, and community engagement.
