Free ophthalmology clinic in Goiânia expands access to vision care

Sesc Saúde Visão set up a mobile unit at the Sesc Faiçalville parking lot in Goiânia to provide free eye examinations, including refraction and tonometry, on 13 July. Pre‑registration was opened on the Sesc website; applicants may be full‑credential Sesc members, their dependents, or the general public. Slots are allocated after a socioeconomic questionnaire, not by lottery, and the program typically handles about 400 examinations each month.

Patients receive test results and a prescription for glasses. Paula Lorrayne de Melo Silva, analyst at Sesc Saúde Visão, said “we perform exams such as refraction and tonometry, according to each patient’s need.” Users praised the care, with Kayane Pereira Santos noting the staff were “very attentive” and José Faustino Dias saying it was his first eye exam in over 30 years. Marcelo Baiocchi Carneiro, president of the Fecomércio Sesc Senac system, called the project “of great importance,” and Leopoldo Veiga Jardim, regional director, said it “broadens access to preventive eye health.”
