Free School Clothes website launched to help families save on uniforms

Jon Evans has launched ‘Free School Clothes’, a digital swap shop designed to help families manage the rising costs of school essentials. The not-for-profit platform allows families to list high-quality outgrown school clothing within their school communities and request items they need for free.

The initiative began as a small-scale effort in Cardiff, where Evans placed a collection box outside his home. Since its inception, the project has grown into a volunteer-run community effort that has redistributed 7,927 items, providing an estimated £51,605 in savings for families.

Currently, 33 schools in the Torfaen area have signed up for the service. Local officials, including Torfaen Council’s Cllr Richard Clark, have encouraged school participation to help address economic inequalities and reduce environmental waste through the redistribution of clothing.
